How could hydrochlorothiazide help in the treatment of a hydrocele? I was told by a doctor that hydrochlorothiazide could help reduce the amount of fluid collected in a hydrocele. Is this true? How would this work? Can anyone provide some information on this as it appears hydrochlorothiazide is used to reduce the amount of water the kidneys can collect. I don't see how this could help with a hydrocele?
Allison replied: "HCTZ has a diuretic effect... which means it can help you remove water from anywhere, for example swelling in the body caused by congestive heart failure, etc... it can also help to reduce the fluid that is in the hydrocele the same way... hope this helps..."
Medical Student class of 2008 replied: "The mechanism of action for HCTZ like the other responder said is diuresis. Technically speaking, it decreases the amount of sodium that your kidneys reabsorb, thus causing increased urination. This can be to one's advantage for patients with hypertension which is why thiazides are first line for hypertension. However, I've never seen my attendings or residents prescribe HCTZ for a hydrocele. This is because the cause of the hydrocele will not be fixed by the medication. The way to fix the hydrocele is to correct the underlying problem
I hope this helps."
Can you take bayer aspirin while on hydrochlorothiazide? My mom has to take hydrochlorothiazide 4 her high blood pressure, but she gets headache's a lot. And we use Bayer Aspirin 4 our headache's, but in some poeple it can cause high blood pressure. So is it safe to take bayer aspirin while on hydrochlorothiazide?
Douglas B replied: "She don't have to live with those headaches if she doesn't want to.
Not knowing for sure where they are located, have her try this one for those that come from the back.
Place both her hands behind her head, the fingers on the muscle at the base of her skull. Pull into that muscle hard and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of her body. Wait 30 seconds and very slowly start to look down until her head is extended all the way. Then release the pressure and let her head rest there for one minute.
If her head pain is coming from someplace else, contact me and I'll help her get rid of it wifhout the need for anything else."
Recreational uses of Hydrochlorothiazide??? Small round peach pill with Z 2083.? I am curious if any one has heard of any recreational uses for hydrochlorothiazide, small round peach colored pill with z 2083 stamped on it? and if so for what? I know it is a diuretic often prescribed to treat fluid retention as well as given to people with high blood pressure. But I am curious if any one out there has heard of any other uses for this drug?
Please only academic answers or personal experiences, no smart a$%$# replies, no I am not looking to use this drug for the fun of it, I just want to know if there is anything the kids might be doing with it???
Thanks A Bunch
Would it have any uses as far as between the sheets goes? Or taken with alcohol, would if have a euphoric effect etc?
qnbee1 replied: "No I have never heard of anything. Like you said it is a diuretic only and really has no other purpose, even when several or more are taken. There is no mind-alteration associated with it so if you happened to find them on one of your kids chances are they found them somewhere and were *hoping* there was some fun to be had with them but.. nope!"
suburbicide replied: "It doesn't sound like there's anything interesting about it, so I doubt "the kids" are interested."
Diplopia caused by spike in blood sugar after using hydrochlorothiazide? Last week, my mom's doctor changed her dose of Zestoretic to increase the amount of hydrochlorothiazide she was taking due to an increase in water retention. My mom has been controlling her blood sugars well until this medication change. I've read that the medication can affect the blood sugar, which in turn can cause all kinds of problems, one of which being diplopia, otherwise known as double vision. Has anyone else ever had this problem as a result of spiking blood sugar levels? I've researched diplopia a lot and see that the majority of the time, it corrects itself. My mom is just about a basket case because she can't do anything but worry about it. She can't work. She is freaking out afraid that it's a permanent condition. I keep telling her that it's not permanent and it should get better with time. Anybody have any experience with diplopia and how long it lasted for you or someone you know that had it? She's really scared. Thanks for any input!
djzeratul replied: "The diplopia could be caused by a condition known as Diabetic Lens Osmosis, which occurs due to high blood sugars. Water is forced into the small space between the lens and cornea, which causes blurry or double vision. It can correct itself as blood sugars return to normal, but the risk for permanent retina damage still exists with constantly elevated blood sugars.
I have experienced Diabetic Lens Osmosis, and it does correct itself, as long as you get the blood sugars under control. But if you strain to see for long periods of time to get around the lens osmosis, you can permanently damage your vision. It is the same phenomenon behind the trend in worse vision in the technology field. Constant eyestrain from reading text on a computer screen can permanently damage your ability to see at further distances.
The lens osmosis goes away a few hours to a few days after regaining good control of your blood sugar.
Now, in regards to your Zestoretic question... Hydrochlorothiazide has a well known side effect of hyperglycemia, so if her doctor put her on a higher dose of that, she should notify her endocrinologist immediately to formulate a new insulin dosage to account for the medication. You could experiment around, but its probably best to ask a doctor first before you do anything.
Again, don't take any of my advice as medical fact. Just know that Ive been in these situations before, and thats what has worked for me."
What is the maximum dose of hydrochlorothiazide one can use? What is the maximum dose of hydrochlorothiazide one can use per day.
Dieselhj, thanks. My aunt was put on increased levels of hzct along with enalapril, clonidine with absolutely no effect whatsover. The total hzct dosage rose to about135 mg divided 3 times. Finally we managed to reduce it to 90 mg.Considering tapering off to 50 mg slowly. Thanks for the answer buddy.
Btw her bp was 150/90 and after this cocktail of enalapril, clonidine, hzct it rose to 160/100.
prazosin 3 mg daily finally controlled the bp to 140/90 to 130/90.
i want to know how to remove those offending buggers enalapril, clonidine and reduce hzct.also i want to try benazepril(5mg) twice daily.
It appears that clonidine was started after Echo cardiagram report.I am having the reexamination of ecoreport with an expert doctor.
Yes, i agree 50 mg is max for hypertension.
She doesnt have edema.Actually things became haywire(I mean the pre ion and bp) after she got edema from amilodipine-benazepril combo. The obvious culprit being amilodipine(it was only foot ankle edema).I suspect the doc in question was unaware of(the reaction) it and went hyper on hzct.
The interesting thing is after reducing clonidine her bp levels dropped(it is arkamine, a combo of clonidine and hzct) to near normal(130/80).I had her record bp readings 3 times a day.Dieselhj, yes we are tapering off on clonidine slowly.
dieselhj60 replied: "50mg. Why???
Addit: (?)300mg is only for edema. As a diuretic in hypertension, the max dose is 50mg!. Any increased dose above that only leads to more electrolyte disturbance without any added benefit.
If she is considering reducing the clonidine, make sure its with the assistance of a doctor, because it needs to be tapered down as it works centrally (the brain) and can have nasty side effects if stopped abruptly. Is her problem mainly hypertension, or does she have some other underlying cardiac disorder ie: CCF."
Brian replied: "The maximum recommended dose is up to 300mg/day. Keep in mind that's the recommended dose/day, however physicians have a tendency to do what they do.
Courtesy of RxList."
can you get high off of hydrochlorothiazide or buspirone? and what are they used for.
Rahrah replied: "hydrochlorothiazide is used for two things - one is to lower blood pressure, and the second is to remove water from the body (causing you to have to pee A LOT!). you will not get high or low.
buspirone is an anti-anxiety medication. you wont get high, but you can get nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness, and blurred vision."
Can Lasix be subsituted for Hydrochlorothiazide ? Both are drugs used to remove fluid/control blood pressure.
cgf2us replied: "yes but should only be done by your dr"
nurse123 replied: "they are not equal to each other if that's what you're asking...they work differently and are not the same exact medication...only your doctor should be switching your medications and i would encourage you to talk to him"
Jeffrey S replied: "No, unless your doctor changes you. Lasix is stronger than Hydrochlorothiazide. Never change prescribed medications without your doctor's approval."
~Stacy~ replied: "No...Lasix and HCTZ are two different medications, even though they might share the same effects. I would discuss this with your doctor and see if it would be safe to switch to a different medication. Never ever substitute medications one for another...This can have detrimental effects!!!"
Im a 28 year former college basketball player on blood pressure meds? I'm 6'1 220 pounds in fairly good shape. Last year I could dunk and now seems Im not as athletic as I used to be. Is this a side effect of the Meds Olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide meds Im now on for high blood pressure? If so what could I do to get my ability back?
Da_Griff replied: "Neill's a wanker.
Mate, go talk to your doctor. They may be able to identifiy what's causing the problem and change yer meds if need be. Good luck."
Jumping J replied: "If you really want to improve your Vertical jump, first you need to figure out what type of Jumper you are, a power jumper or a leaper, as using optimal biomechanics is just as important as having explosive muscle power. Next you need to figure out what type of power or strength you are lacking. The three basic types of strength are: Base strength, transitional power, and explosiveness or "Reactive" power, they are all different and must be trained in different ways. Now I know a lot of you are wondering what's the difference between the three. Well in short Base Strength is how much weight you can move, Transitional Power is how fast you can move said weight and explosiveness is the maximum speed and distance you can move said weight with each single movement. A good Vertical Jump training routine will include the following exercises:
Base Strength
1: Traditional Squats and Pistol Squats
2: Deadlifts/base building olympic lifts
3: Lunges
4: Core Work (Functional Performance Core Strength= The ability to make your pelvis and spine "lock" and work as a single stable unit, not simply having a 6 pack or being able to do 100 crunches)
5: Stretching
Transitional Power:
1: Box Squats/Tempo Squats
2: Power Cleans
3: Push Press
4: Core Work
5: Stretching
Explosiveness:
1: Ballistic and jump squats
2: Traditional and Compound/Hybrid Plyometrics
3: Sprinting
4: Core Work
5: Stretching
You'll also want to figure out which individual muscles/muscle groups are working inefficiently. You can figure this out by completing a full vertical jump test progression and a baseline fitness test to diagnose any muscle imbalances that you may have. Remember no matter what type of training program you do you must make sure that opposing muscles are strengthened and balanced (e.g. Quads and hamstrings, abs and lower back) so don't skip the quad extensions and hamstring curls. If opposing muscles are not strengthened they will lead to weak links, energy leaks and imbalances will result in poor or slow improvement and raise the risk of injury significantly. Do a routine that combines plyomertic/bodyweight, free weight and or acceleration routines. Make sure you are consuming lots of protein to aid in muscle repair after tough workouts You'll also want to replenish your bodies ATP and glycogen stores as they are the fuel for those type IIa and type IIb muscle fibers you will be (AKA FG and FOG) shredding during your workout. In order to gain inches you'll need to tax your central nervous system and force your body to create new motor pathways. If you train correctly you should gain at least an inch a week.
Jump 20 inches higher in 10 weeks:"
